Brightlingsea Museum has collections that represent collections of objects, photographs and pictures illustrative of the social and economic history of the town and its immediate surroundings over the past 700 years, in particular its Cinque Port connections and role at different times as port, centre for stow boating, its oyster industry, yachting and shipbuilding.
Also showing the history of fishing, yachting, stowboating and oystering and the one-time rail link with Colchester. 2008 also sees an extensive exhibtion of the ships building industry from the early days of the shipwrights to the last of the yards closing in 1988.
