About Teversal Trail Visitors Centre

Since opening in 1993, The Teversal Trails Visitors Centre has provided an ideal access point to the Teversal and Pleasley Trails Network and other walks.

There is ample free parking outside the centre with an extensive surrounding grass area making it an ideal place for picnics. A Coal Garden, incorporating a variety of artifacts from the local colliery, including Pit Wheels, marks the entrance to the trails themselves. Parts of the trails are suitable for wheelchair access, cycling and horse riding and there is much improved wheelchair access at the centre and toilets.

The trails follow the track beds of the former colliery railways which, together with the local footpaths, provide a network of varied and enchanting walks through countryside that is abundant with wildlife. Much of the network has now been designated a Local Nature Reserve due to its valuable and fascinating flora, fauna and geology.

A number of circular walks have been devised incorporating some of the most interesting features in the area, including the picturesque village of Old Teversal which has connections with Lord Carnarvon of Tutankhamun fame. This is one of the most unspoilt villages in Nottinghamshire and D.H. Lawrence was reported to have stayed there and based Lady Chatterley's Lover on the village. Hardwick Hall is also within walking distance.

The Teversal Sculpture Trail is a result of ongoing work with over 200 community members working with professional artists. The walk aims to stimulate your response to the diversity of both the natural environment and the sculptures themselves including mosaics, benches, stone carvings and wood sculptures.
Available in the Visitors Centre are refreshments and light snacks. Seating is provided both in and outdoors giving you the ideal opportunity to rest and refresh before or after walking the trails with help and advice always available from one of the friendly volunteers who staff the centre seven days a week. On sale are maps, postcards, souvenirs and a guide book with walks ranging from one mile to twelve miles.

A variety of exciting and interesting events, shows and exhibitions regularly take place at the Visitors Centre all year round so remember to check the notice board for forthcoming attractions and discover for yourself the many fun activities throughout the seasons, such as nature walks, craft fayres and special clubs. The centre is available for public hire to hold meetings, events, exhibitions etc and buffets can be arranged for parties. Please enquire at the centre for availability and hire charges.
