Singleton Botanical Gardens are based in the old walled garden of Singleton Park. The gardens contain fine specimens of rare and exotic plants from around the world. They are at their most spectacular during August when a full programme of events, tours and demonstrations are staged.
The Botanical Gardens house one of Wales' premier plant collections, with spectacular herbaceous borders and large glasshouses.
The glasshouses reproduce a variety of different climates from around the world; in the hot Desert House environment you'll find cacti and succulent plants, while in the Tropical House you can see plants found in the rain forest and tropical jungles. These include the comprehensive collection of orchids and epiphytes such as bromeliads and tillandsias (airplants).
The Economics glasshouse displays plants that come mainly from sub-tropical regions and some Mediterranean countries, and that are important from an economic point of view, like sugar cane, coconuts, olives and coffee. This house also contains the colourful collection of begonias.
