The Tower landing stands over 1000 feet above sea level. It was designed by the late Colonel A. W. Brewill and was opened on 6th August 1923 by the late General Sir Horace Smith-Dorrien.
The spiral stairway of 58 steps takes the visitor to the landing, from which there is, on good days, a wide view in all directions. On the landing is the Beacon Light which burns nightly to remind watchers that heroism is not forgotten.
The Memorial is also known as many other names, like the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Memorial and The Mercian Regimental War Memorial Tower.
