About Merseyside Maritime Museum

Drop anchor at the Albert Dock and explore the Merseyside Maritime Museum - it's a great day out. Discover the story of the Titanic, learn about the Battle of the Atlantic and marvel at Liverpool's maritime past, at one of the city's most popular attractions.

As well as maritime history, you'll also get the chance to explore a world of smuggling, tax evasion, protest and war at Seized! The Border and Customs Uncovered exhibition. Have a look at some of the outrageous objects used to smuggle contraband, and learn all about working on the dockside. And the museum's new Cargo-a-go-go game lets you practise your handling skills, seeing how much cargo you can safely load. It's a fun and educational adventure for all the family.

Just a few steps from Merseyside Maritime Museum is the Pier Master's House. The only remaining house (the other three were destroyed during WWII bombing raids), this Edwardian house conjures up the life of the pier master and his family, as he controlled shipping through the Albert Dock. The International Slavery Museum is also just alongside the Maritime Museum.

The Merseyside Maritime Museum also organises tours of the nearby Old Dock. Places are free, but must be booked in advance by contacting the museum.

Entry to the Merseyside Maritime Museum is free. The museum opens daily between 10am and 5pm, but the shipsand quaysides are closed during the winter.
