Dyffryn is an absolute must. It's is one of the most popular outdoor attractions in South Wales and with very good reason. The Grade 1 Registered garden is beautifully designed to the highest classical standards and lovingly kept. It contains examples of all the best features of traditional British garden design, from formal Edwardian spaces to rolling parkland and a particularly interesting arboretum.
Like all the best arboretums, Dyffryn Gardens contains excellent specimens of familiar species and many more exotic trees as well. It's a great place to learn and a great place to wander and wonder at the amazing variety on show.
Regular special events are put on in the Gardens. They range from children's Christmas, Easter and Halloween fun to more sober scientific evenings put on by experts like Cardiff Astronomical Society. Guided tours are available and special walks run in the spring when the bulbs are at their best. There are even volunteer programs available - perfect for keen gardeners with limited space at home.
In the warmer months outdoor theatre productions sometimes run in the grounds, and these are well worth catching too. Especially on clear evenings!
