The Croydon Airport Visitor Centre was opened in October 2000 and tells the story of the Airport.
The visitor centre is housed on two floors of the former Control Tower and has three galleries catering for all the family.
The first floor contains an exhibition exploring the Airport's history and includes a globe with colour coded flight routes of the early air travel. Children are invited to dress up as passengers in costumes from the 1930s and can view Amy Johnson's flight bag.
The top floor houses the Radio Room, which has been re-created using original equipment from early air traffic controlling days. There are also hands-on models aimed at young visitors, which enable you to identify different aircraft from silhouettes and calculate fuel loads to different destinations.
Original views from the airport have been printed onto the windows overlooking the old hangers and runway, allowing you to imagine life at the airport back in its hey day.
After leaving the historic atmosphere of the top floor, you will be able to take in the extensive display of archive photos in a gallery situated along the staircase.
