The visitor centre houses a café, shop, toilets, an exhibition and a meeting room which is available for hire.
The country park extends for 30 hectares (67 acres) where native trees have been planted. Wild flower meadows, ponds and an orchard have been created and wheelchair and pram friendly paths have been laid around the park.
The natural play area has been funded by the Big Lottery Fund and boasts a range of play equipment and landscaping to encourage 'natural' play.
There is also a separate play area for children aged under eight years.
The unusual design of the visitor centre offers practical solutions to environmental problems as well as demonstrating ideas in new technology such as solar water heating. The centre is accessible to all and has a hearing loop system.
The café offers cakes and pastries with fairly traded coffee or tea, cooked breakfasts, light lunches and locally produced ice cream.
