Our aim is to make the past come to life at Brentwood Museum with an exciting collection of everyday objects from previous generations. Even the Museum itself is part of Brentwood's history. It is housed in a quaint little 19th century cemetery lodge, once home to the sexton, his wife and six children!
The collections include household items dating from the 1870s to the 1970s showing how generations of housewives worked and how new labour saving devices in the kitchen, laundry and around the house gradually eased their burden.
Home entertainment was once provided by the magic lantern and later by wireless and television. Many examples of how past generations enjoyed their leisure time are on display in the museum. Displays are regularly changed and periodically include themed exhibitions.
