Get away from it all with a walk in the woods and through the newly restored heathland. In some areas there are grand old trees; in others the trees have been coppiced to open up the woodland floor and allow the woodland flowers and butterflies to flourish.
There are more than 1,000 species of fungi in the woods, and beautiful orchids intermingled with an impressive carpet of bluebells and primroses in spring. The age-old practice of charcoal burning is still active in the wood and the products are sold locally.
In the areas where the heathland has been restored, tree pipits, woodlarks and nightjars are returning and we hope Dartford warblers will colonise.
